Sesimbra, Portugal

One more concert at Super Bock Super Rock, at Meco Beach, Sesimbra, Portugal closed with thousands of people cheering the legendary Peter Grabriel. Thousands of people travel to this yearly concert and many have already discovered the secrets that this region hides.

Sesimvra beach, mountain & townSesimbra, a picturesque fishermen’s town, has one of the best beaches in Portugal, with crystalline water wave free, blue flag and white, smooth sands. This village is only 40 minutes away from Lisbon, the capital, and yet it has so much to offer in its surroundings: bars and picturesque fishing restaurants (with fish so fresh that when the boats arrive a wave of seagles follow them), mountains with a castle, golf course only 5 km away, Arrábida (a WTO protected mountain with paths for walks, mountain bike or just bicycling, radical sports), other beaches (Meco famous for its nudism, it actually accommodates non-nudists in its extensive area and Lagoa de Albufeira, to mention a few).

Where in the world do you find a beach-like Mediterranean Côte d’Azur but with Atlantic waters and still so close to the Capital of a country?

In Sesimbra we found 2 lovely places to stay, not only for the concert if you decide to come next year, but for a lovely vacation (all year long).

Sana Sesimbra HotelSana Sesimbra Hotel, a four star hotel with 100 rooms and 4 suites, is just located on the other side of the road to the Sesimbra beach, on its main avenue, Avenida da Liberdade. Comfortable spacious, modern rooms, graced with a veranda with a view to the sea (or to an interior garden), can be adapted with an extra bed if you have children. The suites have a corner living room, with a large sofa and large LCD and a balcony with chairs and tables overlooking the beach. The bathrooms in the suites have large windows. A hallway separates the 3 areas of these suites. In the morning one can take a delicious breakfast outside, on the ground floor, in a wooden balcony while seeing the vacationers taking their place on the beach for a sun treat. The entertainment is all concentrated on the roof of Sana Sesimbra Hotel, with a 360º view of the mountain, castle and Atlantic Ocean. There one can find a place to relax reading a book on a sofa or playing some games (like snooker), children can draw and paint in their tinny table and adults, after a session in their mini-gym and/or a lazy bath on the pool (which is covered in winter or a less “summer-like” day), can still chill in the Jacuzzi or lay in the benches for the so acclaimed suntan. In the evening, meals are also served in the restaurant, on the roof, on a relaxed atmosphere of colorful tables overlooking the lighted Castle of Sesimbra. This Hotel also has 3 meeting rooms, which accommodate from 20 to 150 people. The hotel has 37 paid parking spaces and Wi-Fi in the rooms.

Sesimbra Hotel & SpaSesimbra Hotel & Spa, also a four star hotel, is at the end of the Avenida 25 de Abril, with shops and restaurants animating the streets that separate it from the beach. Also with front view for the ocean, the Sesimbra Hotel & Spa has 84 rooms and 8 suites. Two of the floors are for smokers. The rooms are really spacious, decorated in a light green-bluish summer-like color. The bathrooms are equipped with branded enmities, hair dryer, as well as rope and slippers. The rooms are really spacious and in some of the balconies there are even lazy chairs (either looking at the ocean or at the outdoor pool). The hotel has an outdoor pool for adults and another for children as well as an indoor smaller pool, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath and gym, adjoined to the SPA where treatments and relaxing rooms are available at the guest’s request. The restaurant is under the outdoor pool with a water fall separating the guests from the fresh blue and green view of the Atlantic. During the summer, the hotel now offers thematic dinners and entertainment, like the Mexican night for which we were invited. The hotel also has 5 meeting rooms for up to 220 people, that can be interconnected or not depending on the number of people and activities planned. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi in the meeting rooms and Internet access in the rooms, parking and beach parasol, in their reserved beach area, for all their guests. On the ground floor, by the Spa and in the access to the beach there is also the Mosaic bar – a area decorated with hand-painted mosaics that can also be reserved for a welcome get together or warm-walking / team-building event.

Hotels.tv/lisbon interviews Milton Nascimento

In the spirit of the Lisbon Festivities (Festas de Lisboa) 2012, Hotels.tv/Lisbon interviewed Milton Nascimento at the Heritage Avenida Hotel’s library. Milton is playing tomorrow, June 30th, together with Carminho, Ana Moura and António Zambujo in an ensemble of Brazilian music and Fado.

Milton is coming to Lisbon ever since he first made his trip to Europe in the 70’s.  Even though he knows this city so well, he says that he still finds something new to see, enjoy or experience here, especially when it comes to food (he loves Portuguese restaurants and in particularly Pasteis de Belém (world famous, century old secret recipe of pastry from Belém).

For his vast knowledge of this city, Milton is now the chaperon of his musicians when they come to Lisbon and he gets the highest kick by taking strolls, interacting with the people and taking the train – along the sea – to Cascais or to Sintra, as well as one of the many trams (elevadores and eléctricos) that take you from downtown to one of the hills filled with history.

Yet, it is in a room with a view that he gets inspired for his songs while in Lisbon. This is the best treat he finds in any of the Hotels he has stayed in, and he already stayed twice at the Heritage Avenida Hotel (also because of its proximity to downtown, Coliseu dos Recreios concert hall and other Theater houses and high street shopping Avenue – one of the most luxurious in the world for the International Brand houses it represents).

On June 30th, Milton Nascimento will sing at the closing of the Lisbon Festivities (Festas de Lisboa), Ponta de Areia among other hits, at 22:00 at the Alameda D. Afonso Henriques.

Why don’t you also come to Lisbon and discover the many secrets, charms and enchantments of the 5 senses that this city has to offer? Call your local expert hotel booking at +351.93 43 16078 or write to Lisbon@hotels.tv now. Hotel Heritage Avenida, Lisbon

The Heritage Avenida Hotel is a luxurious, four stars (and for the stars… Who knows who you can bump into…???), boutique Hotel conveniently located in the Avenida da Liberdade, the main Avenue that drives your right to downtown Lisbon.

This hotel was designed and decorated by the famous architect Miguel Câncio Martins, who preserved the beauty of the XVIII century façade of the building, kept the balcony of the hold Hermética Herb Shop with its 1,000 drawers, the ashlar, the veranda railings and the Pombaline tiles. He was still capable of creating a warm, comfortable environment throughout the hotel, respecting the architectonic design integrity. The final result was recognized by the “Oscars” of Real Estate in 2008, in the category of Rehabilitation and it was also included in the 2007 Hot List of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler publication.

At the lobby, a doorman welcomes you into a lounge area with comfortable sofas and a bar: a great place to meet before going out, chill out from your shopping or just to catch up with a conversation. From there, one can take a spiral wooden staircase to the library that offers 2 computers with internet and 2 printers, for needed business presentations, administrative tasks, online check-in and directions as well as a good selection of books, newspapers, magazines, board games and videos that one can also take to his/her room.

The Heritage Avenida Hotel also has a mini gym well equipped with cardio-fitness machines as well as a Jet pool. In this Health and Fitness center one has access to free towels both for exercise and for a shower in the adjoining bathrooms.

The elevator is decorated with pictures from old Lisbon and the floor resembles the typical pedestrian pavement of Lisbon. The elevator’s doors are hand painted with different phrases from famous writers at each of the floors.

There are 40 rooms and a suite at the Heritage Avenida Hotel, decorated with warm browns and windows with a view: if you don’t get a view directly to the most emblematic Avenue of Lisbon, you will get a view to the Elevador do Lavra (Lavra Tram) and if higher up, you will also get a view to the St. Jorge Castle (Castelo de S. Jorge) as well as other important landmarks. The rooms are spacious, have a desk and a chaise longue. The bathrooms have natural light and are decorated in a romantic way that could easily makes us travel back to the Pombaline’s period. In each room you will also find different pictures in black and white characterizing Lisbon, a mini-bar, a DVD/CD player, LCD TV, satellite TV, air-condition, free safe, hairdryer, bath robes and Molton Brown amenities.

Lisbon special for the weekend June 29th – July 1st

So you missed St. António, the patron of Lisbon and Weddings, as well as the parade on June 12th… don’t worry, you can still enjoy Festas de Lisboa (Lisbon festivities) with this special for the weekend of June 29th to July 1st.

We propose that you visit the city, stroll around Lisbon’s most characteristic neighborhoods, eat fresh sardines under the stars at the sound of local popular music and still dive in the ocean, on a 30 minutes train ride from the city to chill from this fantastic summer weather. In the meantime don’t miss:

June 29th

  • 18:00 Jazz, in the tram, “Ascensor da Bica”
  • Jigging hick (“Bailarico Saloio”), on the streets 19:00-20:30 at Escadinha da Bica Grande (after taking the tram, “Ascensor da Bica,” up)
  • Have dinner under the stars and go for Caldo Verde, Sardines and Chouriço grilled

June 30th

  • Catch some theatre at the local, traditional shops, 11:30/ 12:00/12:30, where actors & actresses, dressed for the part, sell like old times at some of the most characteristic shops: Hospital das Bonecas, Manteigaria Silva, Tricots Brancal, Drogaria e perfumaria S. Pereira Leão

  • At 16:00 take the Omnibus 36, Cais do Sodré – Campo Grande. There young artists will transform your image. They are Confraria do Imaginário. They feverish admires of Da Vinci, Wells, Einstein and Orwell, among others, and they will call for your imagination revealing curiosities and playing games.
  • At 21:30, join the Aqueduto de Vozes Livres and go for a walk, between Jardim de S. Pedro de Alcântara and Reservatório da Patriacal, in this historic underground tunnel that crosses Lisbon and carries water, to find out the harmony of voices along this magical (almost temple like) location that resists to time.
  • 22:00 the closing of the festivities with a live concert, celebrating the popular Brazilian music and Fado (Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade, Nov 2011, UNESCO = Immaterial Humanity Cultural Heritage) with Milton Nascimento, Carminho, Ana Moura and António Zambujo with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa (Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra).

July 1st

  • Go to the beach, taking the train that rides just by the water, to Praia de Carcavelos
  • On the way back stop at Belém, visit the monuments and museums, but don’t leave before getting one of the most famous pastries in the world, Pastéis de Belém, from the Pastéis de Belém café. My suggestion: get it and eat it in there, while hot, instead of standing in like to take them to go.
  • take the tram, nr 28, and visit the old part of town, go to the Castelo de S. Jorge (St. Jorge Castle), purchase your ticket to see the history of Lisbon projected on the walls of this majestic castle

Don’t wait any more and call me at +351.93.43.16078 or email me at Lisbon@hotels.tv, today, to get you the reservation for the hotel that matches your needs and budget.

Lisbon revived with the Football match UEFA Euro 2012

I am not a football (soccer) aficionado but when Portugal was qualified for the UEFA Euro 2012 quarter-final and Ronaldo’s spell was finally broken with 2 magical goals I felt an emotion hard to describe.

This is Portugal at its best and this is why I am so passionate about this country and, in particular, about Lisbon (Lisboa). It´s Fado* (latim Fatum = destiny). And it’s the enchantment of this colorful people. One can find nearly a bit of every piece of the world in this country: desert, mountain, city, sea, hot sunny weather and snow… you name it.

The food, and forgive me for being biased, is the best (fresh fish, olive oil, fruits and vegetables, all the best from a Mediterranean diet with the taste to cry for more).

The best football trainer: the special one Mourinho. The best soccer player, CR7… The 1998 Nobel prize literature was awarded to José Saramago… and the list is endless! No wonder that Lisbon and its surroundings (Cascais, Sintra, Estoril, Sesimbra, Eiriceira, Mafra, Fátima, Torres Vedras, just to mention a few) is so special and it’s a favorite for worldly renowned events such as Rock-in-Rio, Volvo Ocean Race, Harley-Davidson European H.O.G. Rally, Estoril Open, Estoril Jazz Festival.

Yet, to really experience this city one also has to look out for the local cultural and entertaining activities: the Lisbon festivities (“Festas de Lisboa”)! These are the highlight for the month of June, it celebrates the 7 hills where this city was built on. It celebrates St. Antonio, the patron saint of the city and the patron saint of weddings. It celebrates the food, mainly the sardine grilled eaten with salad or bread as well as caldo-verde (a delicious soup made of kale) and grilled chouriço (chorizo, in Spanish, although the recipe is different), at the sound of live popular bands, under the stars.

Come for golf, come for the beach, come for shopping, tourism or business, I’ll get you best place to stay to meet your preferences, the purpose of your trip and budget. Whether you need a venue for a product launch, a wedding, a sales force event, a tournament, a rock concert, a reunion, a conference or whatever you imagine or need, I am the local expert to find you the best, personalized (and if needed private) booking system and rates, for individuals and groups!

Want to find out more, write to me at Lisbon@hotels.tv. I will find you the best stay to experience this true vibrant city. For more on Lisbon, check the Lisbon Blog regularly.
