About Benidorm – the town, the people, the skyscrapers and the Bikini!

About Benidorm – the town, the people, the skyscrapers and the Bikini!

Ask anyone who has been to Benidorm, Spain, if they enjoyed their stay and almost invariably the answer is a resounding YES.

Join me and take a look at one of the cleanest and most popular resorts in the Med… and find out WHY!

Benidorm Skyline

If you like a bit of bustle and hustle on your holiday then you’ll enjoy the energy of the Levante area of Benidorm.

Beach, hotel and theme park pleasures by day and the highest concentration of entertainment and clubbing venues in Europe by night. You can just feel the happy atmosphere.

Levante Beach

The smiling guests of the iconic sky scraper hotels ensure the bar and beach life is always lively and varied. Or, if you just want to relax with family and friends, there are plenty of opportunities for that, including taking in the sun by the pool with a cooling drink in hand.

Fabulous Beach !!

Promenade Levante

Rated as one the best beaches in Europe. Long and safe, Playa Levante stretches for more than two kilometres of luxuriant sand butting up against the area known as Rincon de Loix. There are plenty of beds and parasols for hire, lifeguard patrols and a wealth of water sports. You can also read the daily papers on Levante Beach, at the Biblioplaya (beach library). Run by the local Council it’s free but usually closed in February and March.

It might be known as the sunrise beach, but there’s even more going on at sunset and into the night in the broad promenade that runs parallel to it.

The Old Town and the Town Centre

A visit to Benidorm needn’t lack contact with authentic Spanish culture. The Old Town in particular is an evocative maze of cobbled streets and inviting establishments.

A visit to Benidorm needn’t lack contact with authentic Spanish culture. The Old Town in particular is an evocative maze of cobbled streets and inviting establishments to drink and shop in.

With its blue-domed church and white houses, it manages to retain its character amongst the forest of tower blocks to the east and west. Do yourself a favour and time your visit to coincide with one of the more than 50 fiestas that occur in Benidorm every year.

Hotels and apartments

Most of the accommodation in the town centre is within easy reach of the beach. There are some proper little gems at very reasonably prices, and some excellent 4 and 3 star hotels in the town centre. Value-for-money apartments and studios can also be found.

Sandy Beaches

Apart from Levante there are two main sea front areas handy to the town centre – Poniente and Malpas.

If you like Levante but would prefer something quieter then Poniente is for you.

There are no beach bars and fewer hotels this side but plenty of provision is made for visitors including the opportunity to hire wind surfing boards.

Life guards are on duty each day and there are ramps for the disabled. Again, the sand is spotlessly clean each morning thanks to the hard working hoover team.

Poniente is also a great location to watch the sunset.

Poniente Beach

Malpas Beach is different again. Only a few hundred metres long it is sheltered and popular with volleyballers and other sportsmen and women.

Don’t bring your dog though, they’re not welcome here or on any Benidorm beach.

Malpas Beach

It’s easy to feel a connection with something ancient and artistic in the winding streets of the Old Town. The white stone balcony at the historical centre of Benidorm affords lucky sightseers extensive views. It’s also a popular spot with newlyweds for photo shoots.

The church of San Jaime looks down on all those seeking company or solace. You might also notice a plaque which commemorates the rescue of a small wooden figurehead from the ashes of ship ordered to be burnt after all the crew had perished of an unknown cause.

If you prefer the company of the living and breathing, albeit underwater, then the Benidorm Aquarium on Calle Horno will provide you with hours of entertainment. The tanks include inhabitants of the Med, more tropical specimens, sharks, turtles and even eels. (Eeek!).

Shop ’til you drop!

There are options for shopping on every day of the week, but Wednesday and Sunday by Hotel Pueblo are particularly good for bargain hunters on holiday. Local products like leather goods and tablecloths are always to be found, but really there’s something for everyone.

The El Cisne flea market is held every Sunday and one Saturday each month where the bypass meets the old N-332 in the direction of Alfas del Pi. Tuesdays and Wednesdays there’s a big fruit and vegetable market. More about the excellent shopping in Benidorm

Eating out

Tapas Alley is where you want to be. Small dishes of seafood, meat and vegetable dishes are consumed with great gusto and washed down with gallons of wine and beer along the short covered street of Santo Domingo It can be very busy so be prepared to get amongst the throng.

Ordering is easy even if your Spanish is limited – just point to what you like the look of and say ‘gracias’ repeatedly. There are also a number of friendly British establishments in the streets surround Pl. de la Constitutió. Dining in Benidorm

Entertainment by night in the Old Town

One of our recommendations is a stylish show bar stuffed full of tremendous transvestites called Rich Bitch. There’s a cover charge but it’s a small price to pay for such a fruity and fresh night out.

There is also one very good karaoke bar, but if you want something livelier the Levante beach bars (they are big) with music and entertainment are just minutes away. Get to it!

Weddings on the Costa Blanca with

Weddings abroad are becoming a very popular option for many reasons, first and foremost the weather (who wants a rainy wedding day to remember) and surprisingly the cost is a big factor! You would be forgiven for thinking that travelling abroad for a wedding would cost more money, it doesnt! Obviously your guests have to get themselves to your destination, but in my point of view if they do care about your big day and you give plenty of notice they can make it. Try not to book during a peak time and you will find the price of flights and accomodation in the Costa Blanca are amazing! Everyone wants an excuse for a holiday and long weekends are always a possibility for working couples.

The choice of wedding venues here is suitable for just about any requirement, from lavish to intimate, mountain and sea, hotel or villa we cover the spectrum.

I found through personal experience having married here last October that one of the headaches was finding the venue suitable for my personal taste and my budget. Luckily living here for many years made that easier as I find word of mouth is always the best recommendation. The advantages of asking to help with your wedding planning is that we are a LOCAL AGENT and we know our venues. A misconception many people have is that booking with an agent will cost more money, to the contrary because we book so many clients all year round we can secure much better rates than an individual wedding booking.

What can do for you is find out exactly what you want, how you want it, how much you want to spend and narrow down the field for you to make your final choice. This is your special day! This service is totally cost free. Prices can vary on your requirements but can start from as little as 65€ per guest. We also can secure you lots of extras such as a free bridal suite, car, free bar etc depending on venue.

Feel free to ask us questions, call into our friendly office in Benidorm or email or visit our webpage  for any information. But most of all make it a day to remember, it should only happen once

Tomatina Festival Bunol

La Tomatina 2013 Is ……

La Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Bunol near Valencia. For years thousands upon thousands of people have made their way from all corners of the world to fight in this ‘World’s Biggest Food Fight’ where more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets.

The week-long festival features music, parades, dancing, and fireworks. On the night before the tomato fight, participants of the festival compete in a paella cooking contest. This is one social event in Spain that really shouldn’t be missed.

It’s said that up to 50,000 (reported to be 50,000 in 2012) people come to this huge tomato fight, greatly expanding Bunol’s normal 9,000 person population. There is limited accommodation for people who come to La Tomatina, so many people take the easier option of staying in nearby Valencia just 38km to Bunol by bus or train, or they opt to stay in the lively resort of Benidorm and travel to Bunol on the day of the festival!. In preparation for the dirty mess that will ensue, shopkeepers use huge plastic covers on their storefronts in order to protect them from the carnage.

What Happens at La Tomatina ….

At approximately 11 am, the first event of the Tomatina begins. Many trucks haul the bounty of tomatoes into the center of the town, Plaza del Pueblo. The tomatoes come from Extremadura, where they are less expensive. Technically the festival does not begin until one brave soul has climbed to the top of a two-story high, greased-up wooden pole and reached the coveted ham at the top. In practice this process takes a long time and the festival starts despite no one reaching the meaty prize. The signal for the beginning of the fight is firing of water cannons, and the chaos begins. Once it begins, the battle is generally every man or woman for themselves!!

How did La Tomatina Start …..

The tomato fight has been a strong tradition in Bunol since 1944 or 1945. No one is completely certain how this event originated. Possible theories on how the Tomatina began include a local food fight among friends, a juvenile class war, a volley of tomatoes from bystanders at a carnival parade, a practical joke on a bad musician, and the anarchic aftermath of an accidental lorry spillage.

One popular theory is that disgruntled townspeople attacked city councilmen with tomatoes during a town celebration. Whatever happened to begin the tradition, it was enjoyed so much that it was repeated the next year, and the year after that, and so on. The holiday was banned during the Spanish State period under Francisco Franco for having no religious significance, but returned in the 1970s after his demise.

The festival is in honor of the town’s patron saints, Luis Bertran and the Mare de Deu dels Desemparats (Mother of God of the Defenseless), a title of the Virgin Mary.

At we have many options to choose from for the food fight festival, so wherever you want to stay on the Costa Blanca, get in touch with us and we’ll make sure you’ll be throwing tomatoes in August!!!

Shamrock bar Benidorm

Welcome to the infamous Shamrock Bar in Benidorm.

Graham & Lisa have worked tirelessly since 1995, shedding blood and sweat along the way to ensure that the Shamrock Bar is the most successful and exciting Irish bar in Benidorm! And that’s how it still stands today!

The Shamrock bar is one of  Benidorms liveliest pubs. There is a spacious terrace area with flat screen TVs, projectors for large
screen entertainment making it the ideal place to watch all major sporting events, including of course their beloved Celtic!

You can enjoy a drink on their terrace area whether it be in the sun during the day or enjoying the live music in the evening. Their live music is performed by their resident band ‘the Rovers’ and really gets the atmosphere going ranging from traditional
folk songs and ballads to classics we all know and love including sing a-long songs 7 nights a week.

You can also enjoy their delicious food from an extensive menu.

Located on Calle Gerona, you’ll find the Shamrock bar hard to miss……..just listen out for the anthems and ballads pumping out every evening!

The Shamrock bar is definitely the genuine article, the roots planted here are now listed as an official Irish pub by Guinness at St James’s gate!

It’s a must when in Benidorm!!

The office isn’t too far away from the Shamrock bar! We’re on Calle Lepanto. Pop in and see us or contact us on UK 0843 207 4195 or ES 0034 965 854 673 or email for a great hotel or apartment in Benidorm!
